The Smith House, built in the late 1840s, is the only grand townhouse remaining in downtown Nashville. It has a rich history that traces back to the Civil War and beyond. In 1882, it went from a residence to a social club named The Standard Club and quickly became Nashville’s premier private club.

Today the Standard Club at the Smith House is one of the top five private cigar clubs in the United States and an award-winning restaurant. The club hosts two black-tie gatherings every year: the Masquerade Ball and the Standard Club Ball. In 2014, the Standard Club hosted the Gentlemen’s Brawl, its first fight night.

To recognize outstanding work in graphic design, the publication presents Typography Annual. In 2014, this invitation to the Gentlemen’s Brawl at the Standard Club was among the winners selected from nearly 1,800 entries.
